CRIME!!!!
I first discovered this band searching for X and Darby Crash videos on youtube. The first thing I discovered was these 4 men dressed in police uniforms playing in San-Quentin to all its residents with prison guards surrounding them with rifles. For a first impression this doesnt really get much better. Then I listened to the tunes. Albeit a bit Heartbreakers it’s fucking great. I usually hate American first generation punk, bar this band, X and Darby Crash theres nothing else worth listening too until about 1980.
This band at times are a bit tacky and strike me a bit like Ulterior. overly image conscious, all based around fighting, drinking and fucking, but these lot actually have the tunes so I can forgive them.
With lines such as “We belong to the crime wave / Nobody from your wave / We belong to the other wave / Don’t care about new wave / Yea, Yea / We’re from the other wave / Don’t come along and try to bring us down / We’re crime rockers with a deadly sound”. This is from the song ‘Crime Wave’. These lyrics are genius, although from researching them the general attitude towards them in the press was that these kind of lyrics were false and they didnt practise what the preached. I’m not to sure about this and considering I wasnt there i cant really make a judgement on it. Hindsight’s a bitch.
